How many times have you taken a hot plate out of the microwave and it burned your lap? Use a trivet! How about that steaming hot pot of potato stew right off the fire? Use a trivet! 

All joking aside, you put this "trivet" under a hot item to save your table from the loss of hit points from heat. 

Cork is a natural, eco-friendly material derived from the bark of the cork oak tree. No trees are harmed when harvesting cork, only the cork bark is removed and it regrows.
